Niki de Saint Phalle is a sculptor, painter, and filmmaker, she is a legendary figure of French women are known as quite fenonemal artists of her time. She was born on October 29, 1930 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Hauts-de-Seine, France. Her father was Count André-Marie Fal de Saint Phalle (1906-1967), a French banker, her mother was an American, Jeanne Jacqueline Harper (1908-1980).
After experiencing financial difficulties during the Great Depression (the economic depression of the severe worldwide in the decades before World War II), the family moved from France to the United States in 1933, where her father worked as a bank manager of the American branch of the family-owned Saint Phalle.
At the age of 18 years, Saint Phalle eloped with author Harry Mathews, who had known her since the age of twelve, and moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts. While her husband studied music at Harvard University, Saint Phalle began to paint, experimenting with different media and styles. Their first child, Laura, was born in April 1951.

Saint Phalle continued to paint, especially after she and her family moved to Paris in the mid-1950s. When in Paris, Saint Phalle was introduced to the American painter Hugh Weiss, who became a friend and mentor as well. Hugh Weiss encouraged her to continue to paint in her own style.
Her first art exhibition was held in 1956 in Switzerland, where she displays a naive style oil painting. She then took the collage work that often shows pictures of instruments such as guns and knives.
Inspired by her friend pregnancy Clarice, wife of American artist Larry Rivers, she began to use the artwork that considers the archetype of the female figure in relation to her thoughts on the position of women in society.
